The Government has today announced

a  long-term funding agreement for the new Canal & River Trust, which will
replace British Waterways in England and Wales later this year.  The
agreement significantly increases the public commitment to invest in the
waterways and provides greater funding certainty for the historic network
than ever before. This is a major step for us and for the waterways, and
creates a viable foundation for the new Trust to build the future growth and
prosperity of our wonderful canals, rivers, docks and reservoirs.

The Canal & River Trust owes its creation to both the passion,
vision and dedication of countless volunteers and expert staff.
Together, and with the support of myriad businesses, councils, funders and
partners, the network has been transformed from a national disgrace to a
national treasure.  It is a great conservation success story.

By engaging with the millions of people who use and enjoy the waterways,
the Canal & River Trust will breathe new life into the network.  The
funding agreement with Government means that we can now start planning for
the future, including an exciting launch scheduled for June.  We very
much look forward to continuing to work with you to ensure our waterways
continue to be havens for people and wildlife.

I would be  delighted to speak to you about our plans and please do get in touch
(tony.hales@britishwaterways.co.uk).
 Kind regards
Tony.
